MUHAMMAD (Salallahu Alaiyhi Wasalam) his life based on the earliest resource- Martin Lings

On April 10th 2011  Our family started to read MUHAMMAD (Salallahu Alaiyhi Wasalam) his life based on the earliest resource by Martin Lings as a group together.

April 12 th 2011Chapter 4 "The Need for a Prophet"
At the time of the Prophet's (saw) father Abd' Allah, Christians also came for pilgrimage  to the Kaaba (Sanctuary of Abraham). One Christian was allowed to paint an icon of the Virgin Mary and child Christ on the inside wall of the Kaaba. Waraqah who was a cousin of the Abd Al-Mutallib (Prophet's grandfather) had become a Christian. There was a belief among the Christians of those parts that the coming of a Prophet will take place. Waraqah told his sister Qutaylah about the coming of the Prophet. She became obsess in trying to figure out who is the Prophet and if he is already there. At one time she thought that the Prophet was  the Prophet's (saw) father Abd' Allah. He was very handsome, "he was like the Joseph of his times". She had eyes for him. When Abd'Allah was going to get married to Aminah, her sudden impulse made her shouted out at him for him to take her as his wife. The marriage to Aminah took place. After a  few days, she saw Abd'Allah again and she searched his face for that light, that spark , that beauty and she couldn't find it. She told him that the light had left him. By the this time , Prophet Muhammad (saw) was already conceived in the womb of Aminah....The light had left the face of Abd'Allah and transferred into the womb of Aminah.

April 16th 2011

Last night we were reading the chapter " The year of the Elephant" when the jealous Yemeni the so called Christian, Abrahah wanted to destroy the Kaaba out of jealously because he wanted his Cathedral to be the center for pilgrimage at the time in the Arab region. So his army started to approach Mecca. Abd Al-Mutallib ( Prophet's grandfather) heard about this, but he was not afraid, he had so much faith in Allah that he knew God will protect the Kaaba. At this time the Prophet (saw) was not born. The Kaaba was protected by Allah through the birds. This incident made me realise even more that Allah will always protect what/whom he loves.

Waraqah and John 16:13

Waraqah was the son of the second cousin of Abd-al-Muttalib (grandfather of Muhammad). Waraqah was a Christian. Some of the Christians at that time believed that the coming of a new prophet will occur. Waraqah could read and studied the scriptures. He related John 16:13 to his sister Qutaylah.

In John 16:13 Jesus said to the disciples: "When the spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own. But he will speak whatever he hears, he will declare to you the things that are to come"

Commentary from The New Oxford Annotated Bible (College Edition)
John 16 (12-15)
The advocate will clarify to the disciples both things said and not said. As Jesus agent and broker, he looks back to Jesus pastr remarks and looks to what is forth coming.

Marriage to Khadijah

From the Chapter: The Household

"As well as being a wife, Khadijah was also a friend to her husband, the sharer of his inclinations and ideals to a remarkable degree".

They had six children , two sons and four daughters:

Qasim (died before his second birthday)
Zaynab
Ruqayyah (married the nephew of Khadijah , Abu I-'As, )
Umm Kulthum
Fatimah
Abd Allah (died as a baby)

Khadijah gave Zayd to Muhammad as a gift. Zayd later became the adopted son of Muhammad. Ali the son of Abu Talib came to live in the household also.

Abu Sufyan (son of Harith), his cousin became one of his closest friends and companion.

Barakah (Umm Ayman),   the slave that was with Muhammad when his mother died returned to live with Muhammad. Muhammad sometimes called her "mother".

First Revelations

Muhammad was on a spiritual  retreat in a cave in Mount Hira (outskirts of Mecca), when Angel Gabriel spoke to him and told him to recite 96- Surat Al-`Alaq (The Clot) - سورة العلق

In was during Ramadan month, the angel said to him 'Recite!'  and he said : 'I am not a reciter,' . Then the angel embraced him and shook him and told him to recite again and he said  'I am not a reciter.' After the third time he recited:

Recite in the name ofthy Lord who created!

He createth man from a clot of blood.
Recite; and thy Lord is the Most Bountiful,
He who hath taught by the pen,
taught man what he knew not.?"....

Muhammad fled the cave and heard a voice to him saying: "Muhammad, thou art the Messenger of God, and I am Gabriel."
